Dancing with the Gorge Stars

Theme songs from iconic TV shows will set the tone for six competitive dance routines at the fifth annual Dancing with the Gorge Stars competition Friday evening. The third practice session in the parish hall of St. Peter Catholic Church on Tuesday found local amateurs experimenting with moves under the guidance of their professional partners to the music of “Happy Days,” “Gilligan’s Island” and “I Dream of Jeannie,” among others.

Greene celebrates 101st birthday

Columbia Basin Care Facility staff are seeing more and more residents celebrating birthdays over 100 — they currently have two residents aged 103 and 105, respectively. Another resident, Jean Greene, turned 101 last week.

A ‘festive and bright’ job

It isn’t every day that a 1946 Chevy pickup is parked at the Oregon Veterans’ Home — and in a courtyard closed to vehicles. The truck has evoked fond memories for residents who remember driving that model in their youth. “That has been the biggest hit and the one most commented upon,” said Jennifer Ashley, who strung lights on the truck and filled it with lighted presents and a tree.

Jacobson awarded for ‘exemplary service’

Wayne Jacobson’s career as an internationally recognized expert on hearing aids and hearing health became his passion after he fitted his first patient with a hearing aid in 1976. Forty-two years later, in early December of this year, Jacobson became the fourth-ever recipient of the Marylene Freshley Award, which honored his “years of exemplary service and commitment to the hearing health industry.”
