‘Citizen ID’ cards proposed for HR

Hood River City Council gave unanimous assent on Monday to a “community identification card” proposal for Hood River County residents. A citizen planning group, led by Gorge Ecumenical Ministry, asked Hood River County in October to consider adopting a government-issued identification card available to all who live in the county, age 14 and up.

MCCOG unwinds its many programs

Mid-Columbia Council of Governments met Tuesday for an update on progress of transferring programs to other agencies. MCCOG, which serves Wasco, Hood River, Sherman, Gilliam and Wheeler counties, voted in November to dissolve their intergovernmental agency.

Sushi comes to TD

The Dalles is home to a lot of good food, from community institutions like Spooky’s to new attractions like Rivertap Restaurant, but for years, the town has lacked a sushi restaurant. There are a couple of highly-rated sushi places down the road in Hood River, but now The Dalles residents don’t have to make the drive to get the popular food.

Olson, Bailey lead SWC boys

South Wasco County’s Garrett Olson is usually good for 25-30 points on any given night. The key is getting another player to shoulder some of the scoring load. Olson finished with 22 points, and Kal Bailey busted loose for a career-high 17 points, 11 in the second half, in the Redsides’ 50-39 win over Mitchell-Spray Friday in Mitchell.

Dancing with the Gorge Stars

Theme songs from iconic TV shows will set the tone for six competitive dance routines at the fifth annual Dancing with the Gorge Stars competition Friday evening. The third practice session in the parish hall of St. Peter Catholic Church on Tuesday found local amateurs experimenting with moves under the guidance of their professional partners to the music of “Happy Days,” “Gilligan’s Island” and “I Dream of Jeannie,” among others.

Greene celebrates 101st birthday

Columbia Basin Care Facility staff are seeing more and more residents celebrating birthdays over 100 — they currently have two residents aged 103 and 105, respectively. Another resident, Jean Greene, turned 101 last week.
